On the feast of St. Michael the Archangel Fr. Bo is hosting an Icon Workshop for beginners and intermediate iconographers in Edmonton. Intermediate students will be encouraged to paint a more detailed icon than the beginners.
The icons will be painted with prayer, theological and liturgical explanations using traditional “Egg Tempra” paint that will be made on site, and gilded with 23.5K gold on gessoed wood panels.
This will take place daily from Saturday, November 8 through Tuesday, November 11. Why a Saturday through Tuesday you might ask? Because Tuesday is a stat holiday (Remembrance Day) and many people will have the entire “extra” long weekend.
Each day, except for Sunday, classes will begin at 9 am and continue till about 5 pm (or later if people wish and Fr. Bo is able). On Sunday students are encouraged to join Holy Cross Parish for a Divine Liturgy at 10 am, and then will resume the workshop after lunch.
The cost of this workshop is $500 Canadian with $100 being a deposit to keep your spot, and the remainder to be paid upon arrival. This includes all supplies including gold, icon boards, paints, brushes and also simple lunches and snacks daily. Those with special dietary needs may wish to bring their own lunch as Fr. Bo is not a fancy cook. It looks like soup and sandwiches are likely on the menu.
The workshop will take place in the icon studio found within the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Parish. This is on the north side of Edmonton at the following address: 9003 156 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB.
